Just in time for Passiontide and Easter, the title of my review of Dune: Part Two comes to you courtesy of my husband, who, when the lights came up in the theater, declared that Paul Atreides is “Bizarro Jesus” because he is a messianic figure who causes others to suffer and die for his own aggrandizement.
I agreed with this.
My husband then said that Paul’s love interest, Chani, must be the “Mary Magdalene” of the Dune universe.
My husband was then advised to stop while he was ahead.
The Zealots Don’t Read the Book(s) Either
Confession: I haven’t read Dune. Every time I’ve started, I put the book down after the first forty pages to deal with some crisis and forget to pick it back up. I have read extensively on the lore and criticism because it’s an important reference point in nerd culture.
