Ep. 3 of "The Regime" Hits All the Tropes, But Then Thrills by Flipping Them
Dear Reader,
We did it—we hit Trope Bingo with “The Heroes’ Banquet,” the third episode of The Regime. The series is premised on Vernham’s regime collapsing in the course of a year, and the first two episodes—and the first half of the latest—indicate it will be because of the increasingly malign influence of Zubak on Vernham.
But in playing to all the tropes, only to disappoint expectations, the show has cleared the bingo card for episode four—it’s hard to guess what might happen next, and which of Vernham’s self-inflicted wounds might be her downfall.
Fatherly Advice

Now, I have no recollection of the circumstances led my father to teach eight-year-old me this aphorism while sitting at a diner, but it stuck.
